Innovative advances in adhesive dentistry allow us to bond beautiful ceramic restorations, strengthening your teeth. We use the most current techniques ensuring that our ceramic restorations are very strong and long lasting. After completion of your restorations the key to ultimate longevity is proper home care and visits with our hygienist.
Listed below are our different restorative options. Mention this website when you make your appointment and receive a complimentary exam.
Composites
Composite are metal free tooth colored fillings that are bonded to the tooth and look natural. Composites are placed in one visit and are good to restore small to medium sized cavities. We use strong, esthetics materials that effectively restore your tooth without sensitivity. Fillings need to be replaced periodically. Due to the oral environment and your bite force fillings will develop microscopic voids that allow bacteria to enter the tooth. As these margins break down the fillings should be replaced.
When a tooth has a large cavity a composite is not strong enough to stabilize the tooth. In these situations a ceramic or cast metal restoration is needed.
Crowns
When a tooth has extensive breakdown a full crown is needed. This is made of metal, porcelain fused to metal or all porcelain and is used to cover the entire biting surface of your tooth. This is used to ensure that the tooth is protected from your bite forces and daily function.
Bridges
A bridge may be used to replace a missing tooth. The bridge is typically made of ceramic with metal substructure and it uses the teeth on either side of the space to ‘bridge’ the gap. This can be used to replace single teeth or several teeth. There are many options today to replace missing teeth we will evaluate you for the best option.
Dentistry has been a leader in the esthetic revolution. Our patients have demanded that we develop techniques to enhance their appearance and we have risen to the occasion. Our philosophy is to do every procedure in an esthetic manner. Whether you have a cavity, a missing tooth or would like a better smile the result will be esthetic. We use materials that in addition to being esthetic have also been clinically proven to provide strength ensuring maximum longevity of your bite and smile. Whitening
Whitening is a safe, effective procedure, which brightens teeth that are discolored, stained or darkened in color because of injury. We can fabricate a custom tray system for you to whiten at home. A professional cleaning must be done prior to whitening to remove any surface plaque that is on the teeth. Old fillings and crowns will not whiten so you will need a comprehensive exam to ensure that you are a candidate for this procedure.
Take Home Whitening
With this technique we take impressions in order to create custom fitted mouth guards that holds the bleaching gel. The mouth guard is worn for at least two hours daily or at night. The duration of treatment is determined by the severity of the stains. This technique works well if the patient follows the whitening protocol, which will be reviewed by our knowledgeable staff.
Veneers
Veneers are thin custom-made ceramic shells that are designed to cover the front of the teeth. Made of tooth colored materials veneers are used to treat gaps and teeth that are permanently stained, poorly shaped or slightly crooked. Veneers are also used to cover teeth that are chipped, worn or eroded at the gum line.
We will begin our diagnosis with x-rays and photographs. This will allow us to evaluate your entire face to determine which treatment will give you the best esthetic result. At the second visit we will finalize our treatment plan and schedule you for the preparation appointment. At the preparation appointment we will conservatively modify your teeth and take an impression that will be sent to the laboratory for the veneer fabrication. We will then create temporaries which you will wear until the final veneers are bonded.
The next visit will be in a few days to a couple of weeks. At the bonding appointment we will check the veneers for accurate fit and esthetics. Then you and I will evaluate the veneers for ultimate esthetics before they are bonded. We will make sure that you are happy with the veneers before they are bonded.
After the veneers are bonded they are chemically attached to the tooth thus becoming part of the tooth. By using current techniques veneers are very strong. However they are susceptible to damage just as regular teeth are. Therefore, proper home care and maintenance with the hygienist is necessary.
Composite Bonding
Composite bonding can also be used for cosmetic enhancement. Bonding can be used to close small gaps, small chips or to fill small cavities. The composite shade is matched to your shade and is properly contoured to tooth. The composite is then bonded to the tooth and cured with a special light. The bonded tooth is then smoothed and polished to appear natural. Bonding is usually completed in one visit. Composite bonding is not as durable as ceramic and may have to be redone periodically.
Enamel Shaping
Enamel shaping is an effective service that involves shaping, or contouring natural teeth to improve their overall appearance. When teeth are slightly crowded or uneven, or when teeth appear too long enamel shaping may be used to create an even smile. This process is often combined with whitening, veneers or bonding. This is quick and comfortable and the results can bee seen immediately.
The goal of endodontic therapy is to preserve the tooth. In the past, injured or diseased teeth frequently had to be removed. Today, they often can be saved through endodontic treatment. Through the use of innovative techniques root canal therapy is comfortable and predictable and can frequently be completed in one visit. If there is significant infection present subsequent visits are required.
When emergencies arise and a patient has discomfort it is imperative that you seek treatment immediately. We accommodate emergencies and they will be seen promptly in our office.
Why Endodontics/ Root Canal Therapy is needed
Root canal therapy is required when the pulp becomes damaged through injury or disease and cannot repair itself. Bacteria and their products can leak into the pulp and cause the pulp to die. If a root canal procedure is not performed, an abscess can form at the tip of the root, which can cause considerable pain. Even if there is no pain, the bone anchoring the tooth in the jaw can be damaged. Without treatment, the tooth may have to be extracted.
Procedure
On the initial visit local anesthetic is given, to maintain patient comfort. The affected tooth is isolated and the infection is removed. If all of the infection can be removed the root canal is filled and permanently sealed. A temporary filling is placed in the tooth to keep bacteria out. Antibiotics may be prescribed if an infection is present and has spread beyond the end of the root(s). If there is extensive infection subsequent visit(s) may be required.
Final Restoration and Maintenance
After endodontic/ root canal therapy is completed a crown must be placed on the tooth. The crown will protect the tooth as you function. Without a crown the tooth may fracture or develop more decay. The restored tooth can remain healthy as long as its’ roots are nourished by the surrounding tissues. Good oral hygiene at home and regular hygiene visits are required to preserve the tooth.
Even with all of the advances in dentistry there are times when a tooth has to be extracted or removed. This can be done painlessly through the use of local anesthesia. For more complex extractions, such as wisdom teeth, or for patients that are anxious we offer nitrous oxide sedative.
We provide all types of oral surgery treatment in the comfort of our office. This includes biopsies, simple and complex (wisdom teeth) extractions, bone adjustments, implant therapy and soft and hard tissue regeneration.
By the time people reach adulthood, their teeth and gums, have had quite a workout. When the gums are healthy they fit snugly around the teeth. However, many adults develop some type of periodontal disease, which is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth.
Recent research has provided a link between periodontal disease and other health concerns such as cardiovascular problems, stroke, bacterial pneumonia problems and increased risks during pregnancy. The important fact to remember is that your oral cavity is linked to the rest of your body. Any oral infection can be spread to the rest of your body.
Causes of Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is usually caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on teeth. If plaque is not removed with thorough daily brushing and cleaning between teeth, gums become irritated. The irritated gum tissue can separate from the teeth and form spaces called pockets. Bacteria move into these pockets, where they continue to promote irritation. Left untreated, the process can continue until the bone and other tooth-supporting tissues are permanently destroyed.
Classification
The early stage is called gingivitis. This results in gums that are red and swollen and may bleed easily. This stage is reversible and may be treated with a professional prophalaxis (cleaning) and proper home care.
As periodontal disease progresses, deeper pockets develop around the teeth. Plaque begins to accumulate below the gum line. At this time scaling is needed to properly clean the teeth. This is usually accompanied with local anesthesia for your comfort. In combination with this therapy sometimes antibiotics or medicated prescription mouth rinses are used to help the infection resolve. After this initial therapy you mouth will be evaluated and a long-term plan will be developed
In advanced cases of periodontal disease surgery is needed to remove the infection around teeth. In severe cases of periodontal disease sometimes teeth need to be extracted. If this is necessary we will discuss temporary and permanent tooth replacement so that you will never be without teeth. This will allow you to eat and smile while we proceed with treatment.
Warning Signs of Periodontal Disease
You may not be aware that you have periodontal disease, because many times this infection is not accompanied with pain. There are warning signs, however, and you should call us to schedule an appointment if you experience any of these. Mention this website to receive a complimentary periodontal exam.
• Gums that bleed during brushing
• Red, swollen or tender gums
• Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
• Persistent bad breath
• Pus between the teeth and gums
• Loose or separating teeth
• A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
• A change in the fit of your partial denture
Advances in implant dentistry have changed the way we practice dentistry. Implant dentistry involves the replacement of missing teeth. It is comfortable and predictable and can be used in many different situations.
Implant dentistry consists of a surgical phase in which a small titanium implant is placed into the jaw. After a healing phase the implant is restored. Implants can be used to replace single teeth, multiple teeth or provide teeth for an entire jaw! Implant dentistry can give you back your smile and allow you to chew your food properly. Most people who are missing teeth are candidates for replacement with dental implants.
Our primary goal is to prevent oral problems from arising. When oral problems do arise most can be treated conservatively if they are diagnosed early. At our initial visit we will take all necessary x-rays and perform a complete exam. We will diagnose any problems and present you with a comprehensive treatment plan. Our goal is to treat you so that you have excellent oral health, free of infection. When this is accomplished we can maintain you through proper home care maintenance.
We welcome children in our office. The most effective method to provide oral health care for your children is through preventive dentistry. Regular maintenance visits and proper home care along with fluoride treatment will prevent most oral problems.
Tooth decay can occur as soon as teeth appear. Most babies will get their first teeth by six months of age. The American Dental Association recommends that infants have an examination, by a dental professional before their first birthday. This exam, done while the baby is seated in the parents’ lap is an easy visit and will help us to diagnosis any problems. At this age the parent should brush the baby’s teeth with a toothbrush and water. After the age of two you should use a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste.
Through the addition of fluoride to our drinking water the incidence of tooth decay has decreased significantly. It is important to find out if your community has fluoridated water. For information on this you can call your community public health office. If you don’t have fluoride in your drinking water we can prescribe fluoride supplements that will allow your child’s teeth to develop proper cavity resistance. Most bottled water does not have fluoride included. If your family drinks bottled water make sure that fluoride has been added.
Early diagnosis allows us to treat conservatively, but if decay arises we are able to fill cavities and extract teeth if necessary. Most children respond well to local anesthesia; however we offer nitrous oxide when necessary. In extreme cases we will provide you with a referral to a pediatric dentist.
Services
For our patients that are anxious we offer several sedation techniques. We can prescribe a sedative prior to the dental visit. We also offer Nitrous Oxide sedation. If you are nervous please schedule a consult so that we can discuss these options.
We strive to relax all of our patients. We have headphones so that you can listen to your favorite music and televisions in each treatment room with DVD players. We also have blankets and comfortable dental chairs to make your visit enjoyable.
